Groves Gala Makes History

The 40th Annual Groves Academy Scholarship Gala was a huge success! Thank you to all of those who supported this year’s event. We had a record-breaking year and raised more dollars for scholarship than ever before.

Save the date for next year, April 28, 2018!

This fun-filled event helps student and families who need Groves Academy but cannot afford to pay the full cost of tuition. More than 500 Groves friends and families join together this special night in celebration of our school and our amazing students.

The evening begins with games, punchboards, a wine stop & shop, and a silent auction followed by dinner and dessert. Experience the excitement of a live auction and scholarship challenge during dinner and cap the night off with live entertainment and dancing.

Keynote Speaker - Tim Clue

tim-bg-half.jpg

After a decade as an award-winning professor of communications and speech, Tim Clue took his then-budding comedy writing skills to the clubs, working with many well-known comics—such as Jerry Seinfeld, Steven Wright and Larry Miller. As a playwright and director, Clue’s latest stage comedy “Leaving Iowa” was nominated Best New Play in the Country and is performed in theaters across U.S. and Canada.

Tim now speaks to educators not only as a former professor, but also as an nontraditional learner himself. Challenged by ADHD and dyslexia as a young man, Tim ultimately did earn his Master’s degree and utilized his highly creative senses in the classroom. This spring-boarded him into a life as a professional clean comedian, published playwright, and, ultimately, a highly inspiring and motivational speaker for all levels of educators, staff and administrators. This award-winning, lifetime lecturer is bringing “social” back into the meeting space by inspiring and connecting his audiences through laughter as he rethinks learning lessons to help rebuild 21st century minds.

Emcee - Mark Rosen

Mark Rosen is WCCO’s sports director, anchor and reporter. He joined WCCO as a high school junior at St. Louis Park Senior High and was hired full-time while attending the University of Minnesota. He anchors the 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. weekday sportscasts and hosts Rosen’s Sports Sunday. He has won numerous regional Emmy Awards and has been named Best TV Sportscaster by City Pages a number of times.

He’s a member of the board of directors for Children’s Heartlink and the Athletes Committed to Educating Students foundation. In late March 2012, his book, “Best Seat in the House”, was released, covering everything from his early years at WCCO to his favorite interviews.
