Prospective participants looking to complete the WRS Level I certification requirements in a time-sensitive manner can choose to enroll in Groves Academy's Summer Intensive Option.  During the monthlong summer intensive training, participants can complete certification requirements, except for the online course.  Participants are required to fulfill the expectations listed above and will have 12 months to complete the online course.

Participants in Level 1 certification will be given the guidance and coaching needed to complete the requirements set by Wilson Language Training. Program components include

• a selfpaced online course
• a 1:1 practicum with a Wilson-approved student for a minimum of 60 lessons
• lesson observations with a Wilson trainer
• writing lesson plans, and
• student progress monitoring

Participants in Level 1 certification must complete the prerequisite Introductory Workshop within the previous five years. Participants have 12 months to complete the training. 

Components of WRS Level I Certification

The Groves Academy training program will cover several areas necessary for certification including the following: 

• A self-paced online course (approximately 90 hours) 
• A 1:1 practicum with a minimum of 60 lessons 
• Observation, demonstration, and feedback from a Wilson trainer five times throughout the course of the practicum

Trainees must complete a Wilson Reading System® Introductory Workshop as a prerequisite to the Level I training. This workshop is offered through Groves Academy’s professional development program and is available for an additional fee. Level I training typically lasts for one school year, depending on the frequency of the 1:1 practicum lessons. Trainees are expected to complete the program within 15 months. Individuals who successfully complete all requirements of the certification training are well qualified to deliver the WRS to students.
