Groves Academy raises record-breaking amount at 40th Annual Scholarship Gala
Well over $600,000 to go toward scholarships for students at the nationally recognized school

St. Louis Park, Minn., April 26, 2017 – Groves Academy, a nationally recognized educational organization, raised well over $600,000 at their 40th annual scholarship gala. Approximately 30% of students at Groves receive financial aid in order to attend the school, and this year’s amount raised was far more than any other gala in the school’s history.

Over 525 people gathered on April 8 at the Marriott City Center to support the school and hear keynote speaker Tim Clue and U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar. WCCO TV’s Mark Rosen was the master of ceremonies, and Trish Blake chaired the event. Clue, a comedian who has worked with the likes of Jerry Seinfeld, Steven Wright, and Larry Miller, grew up with a learning disability. He stressed the need for schools like Groves that allow students to learn the way they need to learn – many times with personal, non-traditional thinking.

“Groves Academy has been life-changing for thousands of children in the Twin Cities by combining highly trained teachers and exceptional, evidence-based teaching methods,” said John Alexander, Executive Director of Groves Academy. “We are the only school of our kind in Minnesota, focusing on literacy for all children. We’re very thankful for all of our supporters who make it possible to expand and reach more and more children, teachers, schools, and families every year.”

Groves Academy is a leader in education advocacy and literacy instruction, working with students, teachers, and schools. Groves consists of three programs – the school, which serves 250 students with dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning differences in grades 1-12, The Learning Center, which supports families and schools in the community who benefit from diagnostic testing, tutoring, and other services, and the Institute for Professional Learning, which shares proven teaching methods with other educators, schools, and after-school programs. For 45 years, the teachers, educational psychologists, and other learning specialists have helped thousands of students in the Twin Cities and beyond.

The mission of Groves Academy is to build confidence, success and purpose through transformative learning experiences. The organization’s vision to redefine the way our nation is taught one student, one teacher, and one school at a time.
