  • Taking Charge: Advocacy for StudentsMay 16, 2017, 7:00 pm

Presented by Colin Roney, M.Ed., Groves Academy Dean of Students

Navigating both public and private schools when your son or daughter has learning differences, specifically learning disabilities and attention challenges, can be extremely confusing, frustrating, emotional and overwhelming. The way special education works in Minnesota, especially outside of Groves, can range significantly based on your student’s specific needs, disability, school district, private vs public, socioeconomic standing and parent involvement level. This workshop will begin to explain this process and give a general overview of support services, finding the right setting (school choice / environment) and what questions to ask. Remember, nobody knows and understands your child as you do. Educating yourself aroundthese topics will help you better advocate for your child on their educational journey.
