Dyslexia: A Celebration of Talents

This full day symposium will examine dyslexia as a unique learning style. Drs. Brock and Fernette Eide, noted authors and researchers, will describe the brain science research that reveals that people with dyslexia having unique brain structure and organization, often leading to excellence is such areas as mechanical reasoning, interconnected reasoning, narrative reasoning and/or dynamic reasoning.

Groves Academy is pleased to present Dyslexia: A Celebration of Talents.  This full day symposium will examine dyslexia as a unique learning style.  Drs. Brock and Fernette Eide, authors of the book The Dyslexia Advantage, will describe the brain science research that reveals that people with dyslexia having unique brain structure and organization, often leading to excellence is such areas

While individuals whith dyslexia struggle with reading and literacy, they often excel in other areas, such as mechanical reasoning (required for architects and surgeons), interconnected reasoning (artists and inventors), narrative reasoning (novelists and lawyers) and/or dynamic reasoning (scientists and entrepreneurs).

In the morning, the Eides will present their findings and provide suggestions for maximizing the potential of dyslexic individuals.  In the afternoon, Linda Hecker, Lead Education Specialist from the Landmark College Institute for Research and Training, will present instructional strategies for reading and writing that draw on the talents of students with dyslexia.  The afternoon will also include a panel of Groves Academy faculty members describing how they celebrate the strengths of students who have dyslexia.
