Groves Academy and the International Dyslexia Association-Upper Midwest Branch (IDA-UMB) are pleased to bring you this special event which includes a screening of HBO's documentary, Journey into Dyslexia, and a presentation on evidence-based reading instruction from Ellen Engstrom, Groves Academy's Director of Teacher Training.  The event, which is part of Groves Academy's celebration of Dyslexia Awareness Month, will close with a Q&A session with panelists from Groves Academy and IDA-UMB.

Ms. Engstrom will present on the importance of evidence-based reading instruction and how it relates to the common core standards, which will be implemented state-wide next year.

That presentation will be followed by a screening of HBO's documentary, Journey into Dyslexia.  In this film, Oscar-winning filmmakers Susan and Alan Raymond examine the complexities of the dyslexic brain, show how it is structured differently, and debunk myths and perceptions about dyslexia.

Afterwards, John Alexander, Groves Academy's Head of School, will share information about Minnesota's achievement gap and reading reform measures taken by other states that have been successful in closing this gap.

The event will close with a Q&A session with expert panelists from Groves Academy and IDA-UMB.
