Social Skills Class for Teens
Groves Academy will sponsor an extended 10-week session of the social skills class for teens again this spring, starting on March 2, 2010. The Practicing Social and Conversation Skills program is specifically designed to give 13-17 year old students the opportunity to review and practice important social skills in an affirming and supportive small group environment.
The goal of the class is to learn new skills and increase confidence while having fun and forming new friendships. Teen-friendly dinners and engaging dinner conversation topics will be part of each week’s experience. The lessons will be specific to teens and reflect the real life situations they encounter with peers and family.
Each week a new, identified social skill will be presented and practiced. Class curriculum is targeted toward students who need the confidence, experience and practice to successfully take part in conversations and social exchanges. New skills will be practiced repeatedly through a variety of fun activities and games. Added to the spring session will be material aimed at helping students realize the power they have to shape the experiences and events in their lives. We’ll fuel their curiosity about becoming their best, most effective selves and move them toward awareness of their radiant potential.
Classes will be held at Groves Academy in St. Louis Park , MN . The program is open to students enrolled at Groves Academy as well as other young adults in the community, and is geared toward high-functioning students who would benefit from improved competence and confidence in everyday social situations. Classes are kept small to ensure highly personalized instruction. Classes will have a 5-1 student/teacher ratio with a maximum of 10 students (minimum of 6) per session.
Classes will meet on ten Tuesday evenings (Mar 2, Mar 9, Mar 16, Mar 23, April 6, April 13, April 20, April 27, May 4 and May 11) from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm. The cost for the 10-week session is $595 which includes dinner and beverages.
Registration deadline: Feb 19, 2010.
