Assessments are completely individualized and provide a road map for future success in school.
Groves can help…
The school psychologists at Groves are experienced in working with clients of all ages, from pre-school to adult. Each of the psychologists has been at Groves for over 20 years. They frequently collaborate with Groves faculty and staff members, who are experts in the field of learning disabilities and ADHD and can recommend current, research-based materials and resources.
A personalized experience…
As a non-profit, independent institution, our psychologists have the flexibility to choose the precise assessments that will answer the most critical questions parents are asking: Why is my child struggling? How does my child learn best? What can we do to help? The battery of tests administered is based on the results of a personal interview and the individual’s particular situation. Some parents are interested in a full battery of tests including ability and achievement testing; others are seeking more up-to-date or more in-depth information about a child’s needs in the areas of reading, memory, language, attention, or social/emotional functioning. Our recommendations, as well as the tests we choose, are dictated by the child’s actual needs, not by bureaucratic limits or pre-determined methodologies.
Support beyond the diagnosis…
The results we present, in both a follow-up conference and a written report, are communicated clearly in ways that parents can understand. We take the time to be sure parents know what the results mean and what steps to take next. We provide customized, comprehensive, practical recommendations that will assist in educational planning and help children learn. We are not satisfied with simply determining whether or not a child qualifies for special services, but we can help parents navigate the path toward gaining access to such services. We are well-respected in the community and our efforts on a student’s behalf can be critical to meeting his/her academic needs, increasing confidence, preserving self-esteem, and creating an environment conducive to learning.
